The Ornithoptera, birdwing, family has some of the largest butterflies in the world. They are called birdwings for the way they resemble birds when they fly.
Birdwings inhabit rainforests and most are classified as endangered species, vulnerable and rare.
They are large, strong flyers and love to bask in bright sunlit spots. Birdwings are brightly colored with contrasting shades of green, yellow, black, white, and occasionally blue or orange.
